The Legal Specialist, Trust Management will provide specialist legal advisory and support on trust structures, estate planning, succession planning, and fiduciary matters. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions, while safeguarding the family office’s and clients’ interests.
Responsibilitie(s):
- Provide legal advice and guidance on trust formation, administration, and management within the Heirs Holdings family office structure.
- Draft, review, and interpret trust deeds, wills, powers of attorney, shareholder agreements, and other estate planning documents.
- Collaborate with tax, finance, and investment teams to ensure tax-efficient estate and succession planning.
- Support trustees in understanding their fiduciary duties, ensuring full compliance with trust law, corporate governance codes, and regulatory standards.
- Conduct legal due diligence on trust-related investments, assets, and property holdings across diverse sectors and jurisdictions.
- Liaise with regulators, external counsel, trustees, and financial advisors to implement trust structures.
- Advise on cross-border estate planning, offshore structures, and multi-jurisdictional trusts aligned with the group’s pan-African and global reach.
- Monitor and interpret legislative and regulatory developments affecting trusts, estates, and family wealth management.
Qualification/Experience Requirement(s):
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); Master’s degree (LLM) or specialization in Trusts/Private Client Law is an advantage.
- 5–8 years of post-qualification experience in family office legal advisory, private client practice, or wealth management.
- Strong experience in drafting, interpreting, and implementing trust and estate planning documents.
- Solid understanding of trust law, inheritance law, fiduciary obligations, and tax considerations in both local and cross-border contexts.
- Excellent negotiation, advisory, and communication skills, with ability to engage stakeholders.
- High ethical standards, confidentiality, discretion, and integrity.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to provide commercially sound legal advice with a long-term, intergenerational outlook.
